Erasmus is a EU program encouraging collaboration between European higher education institutions. It provides higher education institutions with financial support for developing and conducting joint projects and making short-term students and staff exchanges.
In addition, it encourages collaboration between the higher education instutitions and world of work in order to develop the higher education system in accordance with the needs of the bussines world and increase employability of the graduates.

Desiderius Erasmus is a Dutch philosopher who lived between 1465 and 1536. Erasmus, one of the pioneers and the biggest representatives of the humanism movement that emerged with the Renaissance, was considered a suitable name for the program due to its contribution to the unification of Europe under a common art and science and its influence on the philosophy of education of its era. Morias Encomium, the most important work of Erasmus, who has lived as a traveler in different European countries throughout his life, is still one of the most important works written against bigotry.
What is the purpose of the program?
The aim of the program is to improve the quality of higher education in Europe and strengthen the European dimension. This objective can be summarized as presenting good practices in different European countries to the benefit of the whole of Europe. The Erasmus program aims to; by encouraging transnational cooperation among universities, exchanging students and educators in Europe, and contributing to the academic recognition of the studies and degrees awarded in the countries participating in the program and improving transparency.
Who can benefit from the program and how?
Erasmus program LLP / Lifelong Learning Program countries, including the members of the European Union of 27 countries, not members of the European Union European Economic Area members Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and the candidate to be a member of the European Union, Croatia and Turkey can benefit of higher education institutions.
The universities, institutes, academies and similar institutions, which are accepted as higher education institutions by the relevant official institutions of the countries, can apply to the General Directorate of Education and Culture of the European Commission and if they are entitled to receive the Erasmus University Charter - EUC Benefit from Erasmus program. Once received, the EUC is valid until the end of the current LLP period. Institutions may apply from the date on which the Commission opens the applications, with the deadline of 1 November each year.
